Malaysian Royalty Demands Porn Site Apology

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — The Selangor palace has officially requested the apology of a royal family member who inadvertently caused links on an unofficial website about Malaysian royalty to direct visitors interested in the sultans of Selangor, Kedah and Kelantan, to link to an affiliate of adult site Blind Date Bangers.

Identified as Tunku Hanan Tunku Harmy through domain registration information, the 50-year-old royal family member apparently set up the TheRoyalNet.com website late last year, but failed to pay the upkeep for the site’s hosting.

Because of the lapsed hosting payment, visitors to the site still greeted with the normal front page of a large, multi-colored map of the Malaysian country, but when clicking on links about the sultans of Malaysian states Selangor, Kedah and Kelantan, they were redirected to kwikxs.com, which, in turn, took them to a Blind Date Bangers entry site.

Palace officials lodged a complaint with Malaysian police on Saturday regarding the site, and later raided a house in Kuala Lumpur’s Taman Keramat Permi, but were unable to uncover any evidence.

“We cannot stop people from creating unauthorized websites, but we hope those who do will be more responsible and vigilant,” said Kelvin Philip Ong, a Selangor palace official. “They must be thorough in making sure that the websites they create do not get linked to pornography sites.”

Ong said that the palace had not yet made a decision about whether to seek action against Harmy.

So far, nearly 19,000 visitors have visited TheRoyalNet.com.
